The complexity of a pump seal installation depends greatly on whether you are replacing the seal with an identical seal, or are you converting from packing, or upgrading the seal type. If you are replacing packing, you may need to also replace the gland follower. If you are upgrading the seal, it will most likely be with a multi-spring seal, which is not difficult. Multi-spring seals or metal bellows seals have set screws built into them. Determining where the seal should be positioned on the shaft is the most critical step. If you are upgrading to a cartridge seal, it could not be easier. Bolt the cartridge seal up, release the setting clips (connect the plumbing if there is any), and you are done.
