Metal Bellows Mechanical Seals
Our general service metal bellows seals use o-rings to seal between the shaft and the mechanical seal. For temperatures over 450 F use our flexible graphite high temp version.

Mechanical Seals
Mechanical Seals and Gasket Supply is our Specialty. American Seal and Packing is a leading manufacturer & distributor of mechanical seals, Grafoil, gasket material, cut gaskets and quality o-rings providing innovative solutions to mechanical seal problems. We’re finding better ways to serve our customers all the time. In addition to our expanding line of industrial mechanical seals, we’re updating and upgrading this web site to provide you more information about our company and our products.
General Service Metal Bellows Seals
- Metal Bellows seals can seal with Flexible Graphite instead of a rubber boot or o-ring Elastomers allowing it to be used in higher temperature
applications - No Springs to clog!!!!!
- Metal Bellows seals are a very effective method of maintaining seal
face pressure on the seal face. - Metal Bellows seals that do use o-rings only require one static o-ring
to seal off any leakage along the shaft in Chemical Service this o-ring
will be PTFE.
An alternative to using multi-spring seals is a metal bellows seal with a singular o-ring. Because the o-ring is static it will not wear on the shaft. When installed correctly metal bellows seals will provide exceptionally long service. Metal bellows seals are an excellent solution on chemical applications where Kalrez, Chemrez, Viton, FKM, Buna, Aflas, or EPDM are not compatible.
For many years an inexpensive form of metal bellows seals has been used very successfully in the wastewater/sewage industry and in the agricultural fields pumping irrigation water. These seals were generally made of a metal formed bellows rather than a welded bellows. Welded bellows seals are much stronger and have superior flex and recovery characteristics which are more ideal to holding seal faces together but cost more to manufacture. Welded metal bellows seals are less prone to metal fatigue and are available in single and double-ply.
American Seal & Packing has negotiated the production of welded metal seals made for us at a cost similar to formed bellows. As a result, we can offer welded metal seals that will last longer in the field resulting in less pump downtime, less loss production and fewer labor costs, saving you incalculably.
Of course, none of this would be attainable if the quality system was not ensuring consistent, repeatable, quality. Manufactured under an ISO-90001 system, maintaining the quality of the materials, and workmanship. On receipt of the product, the seals are re-inspected, labeled, and packaged.
We offer both:
- General to sever application elastomerically sealed metal bellows seals.
- High temperature seals for over 500 F applications.
- Mechanical Seal Seat Prices
- Mechanical seal application data form
- Mechanical Seal repair
- Mechanical Seal Training Programs
There is no sealing device more expensive than a cheap one.
We are unique. Most distributors are tied to one major line and promote only that line. We offer multiple lines because no one sealing company is good at, or most cost effective in all the product segments they offer. Let us help you get the most for your money.

Mechanical Seals
The most common question we get is what should i use, Pump Packing or a Mechanical Seal?
Packing is excellent in a wide range of applications. The factors to consider are is leakage acceptable, and what cost target are you trying to stay under in the short term and long term. Mechanical seals are generally more expensive initially. However the longer you keep your pump in service, the more cost effective a mechanical seal can be. Most packings must leak an average of 6 drops per minute (with the exception of flexible graphite), to lubricate the shaft. American Seal & Packing stocks both packing and mechanical seals, and can help you decide what is best in your application.
