Braided from pure expanded graphite. It is resilient, self-lubricating, chemically inert and thermally conductive. 696 compression packing can be used in both pumps and valves in a wide range of service conditions.
A high temperature packing good for most applications. Great for high temp or chemical applications (nonoxidzing) that can not leak. When you have to have the leak rate near that of a Mechanical Seal this is the packing to use.

Braided from a combination of expanded flexible graphite 696) and high strength carbon fibers (698). Carbon fibers are braided into the corners to provide anti-extrusion and better abrasion resistance in tough applicaitons. This compression packing can give virtually leak free performance. 696CC was independently fire tested to API 589 at API 607 temperatures and pressures.

Syntex fiber compression packing thoroughly impregnated with a high temperature lubricant. Finished packing is surface graphited. An asbestos replacement packing for general service use on pumps and valves.
Texturized fiberglass fiber packing. It is braided dry with no lubricant. Packing will not swell, shrink and is completely incombustible. Used for sealing over doors. Excellent chemical resistance.

Braiding Pump Packing
The most common question we get is what should i use, Pump Packing or a Mechanical Seal?
Packing is excellent in a wide range of applications. The factors to consider are is leakage acceptable, and what cost target are you trying to stay under in the short term and long term. Mechanical seals are generally more expensive initially. However the longer you keep your pump in service, the more cost effective a mechanical seal can be. Most packings must leak an average of 6 drops per minute (with the exception of flexible graphite), to lubricate the shaft. American Seal & Packing stocks both packing and mechanical seals, and can help you decide what is best in your application.
